David Oyetokunbo Oyelowo is English actor, producer, director, and writer, born in Oxford, England, in 1976, to Nigerian parents of Yoruba ethnicity.
He has played supporting roles in films Rise of the Planet of the Apes (2011), Middle of Nowhere (2012) and Lincoln (2012).
2014 was a really successful year for David - first, he received his first Golden Globe Award nomination for Best Actor (Drama) for his role of Martin Luther King, Jr. in the biographical drama film Selma; then, he won a Critics' Choice Television Award for Best Actor in a Movie/Miniseries, was nominated for a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Miniseries or a Movie, and received a nomination for Golden Globe Award for Best Actor in a Miniseries and TV movie for his part in the HBO movie Nightingale.
David Oyelowo is married to actress Jessica Oyelowo - the couple lives in Los Angeles ans has four children.
Oyelowo was appointed Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in the 2016 New Year Honours for services to drama.
On the Red carpet, David is always elegant and he is definitely not a big fan of the Black tie dress code. The actor usually wears monochromatic attire, often - a well-fitting three-piece suit, combined with a matching tie or bow-tie.
