Celebrating art, creativity and personal taste, MUNICH FABRIC START is set to surprise visitors in its anniversary year with fresh perspectives on the future of the textile and fashion industry. For the upcoming event from 14 to 16 July 2026 at the MOC in Munich, the international textile trade show is expanding its curatorial concept to include a Designers Area, which brings textile innovations to life at the intersection of art, craftsmanship and technology.

Highlights include two large-scale textile works by the French artist Julien Jaca. The works “Children ofSky” and “Riders of Silence” will create a new atmospheric ambience as striking textile installation. The exhibition is complemented by Richard Nadler’s “Sanctum Carnis” – a monumental piece of embroidery that explores the connection between AI-generated imagery and traditional textile craftsmanship. Furthermore, MUNICH FABRIC START is working on an international video art collaboration that will provide further impetus at the intersection of art, design and materiality.

Alongside the storytelling project “30 Years. 30 Stories.”, the Designers Area is another special feature marking the 30th anniversary of MUNICH FABRIC START. It connects the history and future of the textile and fashion industry and highlights textile value creation in a new way – from fabric development and material selection through to the final design product. As an inspiring platform, the format presents forward-looking ideas, innovative design approaches and the perspectives of a young generation of designers.

Five Trends
The fabric trends for Autumn.Winter 27/28, which will be showcased in the trend forums at the upcoming MUNICH FABRIC START, are as prominent as they are trendsetting. Five key trends are brought together under the leitmotif “TASTE.”

Quiet Disruption represents a new form of subtle resistance, combining deconstructed heritage withmodern functionality. Ceremonial explores the longing for rituals, spirituality and emotional depth, reinterpreting elegance through opulent, expressive materials. Drifting reflects hybrid lifestyles, uniting technical performance qualities with familiar traditions. Intimate focuses on closeness, comfort and sensory experiences, defining luxury through tactile qualities and well-being. Finally, Inheritance explores heritage, craftsmanship and cultural memory, translating textile traditions into a contemporary design language.

Across all trends, tactile surfaces, innovative finishes, handcrafted details and the reinterpretation of classic materials define the season. The fabrics tell stories of identity, belonging and personal expression– thereby reflecting the desire for greater authenticity, meaning and individuality.

Three Halls
In future, MUNICH FABIC START will take place in Halls 1, 2 and 3 of the MOC Munich. The optimised hall layout brings together the relevant market segments within a more compact space, creating a focused,high-quality trade show experience with short distances and maximum ease of navigation. This change comes against the backdrop of the long-term re-letting of Hall 4 by the owner of the MOC Munich.
