Kim Jones - Louis Vuitton Artistic Director of Men's Ready-to-Wear
Kim Jones is a British fashion designer, born in London, UK, in 1979. He has graduated from Central St Martins College of Art and Design and presented his first catwalk collection in September 2003 at London Fashion Week.
Alongside his own collection Jones has designed and worked for a variety of companies, including Uniqlo, Topman, Umbro, Mulberry, Louis Vuitton, McQ by Alexander McQueen, Hugo Boss and Iceberg.
Jones had a 'nomadic' childhood - at the age of three months he moved with his family in Ecuador and than had stays throughout Africa (Ethiopia, Kenya, Tanzania, Botswana) and the Caribbean, as well as frequent stops back home in London.
Today travelling is still his passion - 'I've always travelled - I've travelled since I was three months old. It's something I could never not think of doing. I can only be in the office for about two weeks. Then I need to go and do something else. It's just that I need to see things', the designer explained.
In 2011, Jones was named the new style director of Louis Vuitton's men's ready-to-wear division, replacing Paul Helbers who held the position for five years.
Among the awards and honors which Kim has received during the years are:
- Menswear Designer Of The Year, British Fashion Council, 2006 and 2009;
- Topshop New Generation Award, twice winner;
- 3 nominations for 'Man Of The Year' by GQ Magazine.
According to Jones nowadays 'men's fashion has become much more about luxury streetwear' and that's what he shows in his menswear collections for Louis Vuitton fashion house.
