Parsons The New School for Design to open a Making Center in 2016
As you already know Parsons The New School for Design (New York) is one of the Top 30 Fashion schools in the USA. Its list of celebrity alumni includes: Donna Karan, Marc Jacobs, Tom Ford, Alexander Wang, Jason Wu and many more.
The latest news around Parsons are that it is going to open a new Making Center next Fall with 35,000-square-foot space on two floors of the Sheila C. Johnson Design Center (SJDC).
The place will become a home for students' projects and prototypes - everything from fashion, products and artwork to media technology, architecture, and interiors.
'The Making Center will allow students from across the schools to work alongside one another in a dynamic environment where cross-disciplinary collaboration is encouraged. When you bring different perspectives and conversations into the picture, you’re going to have more interesting outcomes', said Joel Towers, Parsons Executive Dean.
The space will house a vast array of equipment, including 3D printers, a full library of traditional tools and machinery, printmaking resources, textile equipment, and much more.
'We will push the new space to help us think about the acts of teaching, learning, making, interaction, and collaboration in new, progressive ways. It will be a petri dish of sorts, producing tangible evidence of ideas and thinking, as well as brilliant accidents and unknown trajectories that are the root of real innovation' - that's Parson's aim with their latest project.
