FungalFibers – Leggings at Techtextil 2026 in Frankfurt, Germany
This project focuses on the development of a new process chain for fully bio-based and vegan textiles made from chitosan fibres. Chitosan is derived from chitin, one of the most abundant natural substances, sourced from shellfish waste, insects, or fungal biomass. The project aims to provide sustainable alternatives for the textile industry while reducing dependence on limited natural resources. At Techtextil 2026, ITA Group will present innovations in sustainable textile products, recycling technologies, composites, AI-supported recycling solutions, and thermo-mechanical recycling applications. Demonstrators include insulation panels, recycled textile products, AI-based fibre colour recognition systems, recyclable automotive seat covers, and the patented “Textile Anchor” concept for geotechnical and construction applications.
