DUAL CITY COURSE: Polimoda & Cittadellarte-Fondazione Pistoletto
A full-immersion program mixing art and fashion.
In the first two weeks you will have the chance to be part of the Cittadellarte-Fondazione Pistoletto for ten days in which you will experience the most advanced outcomes in the field of art-sustainability-fashion. You will be taken on a journey through the magic of creating clothing from top Italian fabrics, visiting factories and working with the most exclusive fabric producers in the world, and the most trustworthy agency for sustainability in the textile industry. In the second half, in Florence, you will be able to transform this creation into a portfolio, with element of styling and communication.
The study plan features: basics on fabrics, relationship between art and fashion, methodology on visual research, workshops on creating a garment, elements on styling, portfolio creation, product communication, basic on creative direction.
The course includes: visits to top fabric producers in Biella, a visit to the Cittadellarte-Fondazione Pistoletto, an international guest lecture given by an expert from within the fashion industry, a personal project, a face-to-face interview to find out about one’s own potential and further study opportunities. Attending this course is an excellent first step in preparation for a training path in fashion, continuing with the four-year undergraduate programme in Fashion Design and Fashion Art Direction or with the nine-month master in Collection Design and Fashion Brand Management.

FIRST PART

INTRODUCTION / THEORY
Elements of introduction to the world of contemporary art, visit to the Arte Povera collection and to Michelangelo Pistoletto's works, visit and discovery of Cittadellarte – Fondazione Pistoletto and of its fields of work.
ART AND FASHION, ETHICS AND AESTHETICS
The importance and the role of fashion as a language, art as an instrument to communicate change, sustainability between regulations, responsibility and feasibility.
DISCOVERING THE ORIGINS OF MADE IN ITALY FABRIC
The excellence of Italian fabric, Biella and its textile district, visit to a factory to find out about the productive process, the material, the thread, the fabric.
MOOD AND IMAGE CREATION
The research at the basis of the project: development and elaboration of images, creation of a mood panel and identification of the subject (topic or concept to develop).
FASHION DRAWINGS
Dialogue of a project built around the body: planning, creating, imagining new silhouettes, new volumes, new structures, using different techniques of creative drawing.
PATTERN MAKING AND TAILORING
From the idea to the item of clothing, the development process of a prototype, from paper to tridimensionality.
TEXTILE DESIGN
Materials, interventions, elaborations and manipulations.
SECOND PART
(in Florence at Polimoda)
VISUAL COMMUNICATION
Importance of image and the esthetics of photo in relation to storytelling in magazine and personal project, realization of the photo shoot, photography (practical).
AESTHETICS
Textile/colour body, space, creative thinking.
FASHION DEVELOPMENT
Debrief, create a portfolio.
ART DIRECTION
Business model, elements of brand building, visual communication & sensorial communication.
FASHION COMMUNICATION
Copywriting, communication, advertising, media planning (strategy-wise).
CRAFT TO BUSINESS
Product communication & product placement, vip and celebrity endorsement, product web communication.
COLLECTION MANAGEMENT
Creative process, product and collection management.
Photo shoot with model, hair and make up artist.
Set up of the presentation of the final work and of the portfolio in Villa.
