Daniel W. Fletchers debut collection was a reaction to the gentrification and re-development of urban space in London. The writings of Ruth Glass and witnessing first hand the gentrification of London neighbourhoods inspired a collection which aims to capture the essence of the urban gentry which Glass defined. Peckham, in South-East London, provided a backdrop for a collection which reflects the mix of cultures and styles as a result of socio-economic change, whilst highlighting the effects of regeneration schemes and the displacement of long term residents. Bonded leather outerwear plays a key part and is emblazoned with 'Peckham Pony Club' appliqu?: a fictional tongue-in-cheek society taking a satirical look at the new residents of one the most culturally diverse and fascinating places in London.

Many pieces fuse British heritage with sportswear details and fabrics, asymmetric wool overcoats are mixed with lightweight, semi-transparent base layers, whilst a sponsorship from Saga Furs helped to create shaved mink collar polo shirts and a fox fur bomber jacket, adding a feeling of luxury street wear. Inspiration also comes from the early collections of Hardy Aimes and 1960’s London dandies which are juxtaposed with the boys captured in Alastair Mclellans’s ‘Ultimate Clothing Company’. This contrast is reflected in outfits which layer printed silk pyjama sets which appear inside out, with slim fitting panelled joggers and sheer striped tee shirts. Looks are completed with hard shell briefcases in a variety of python, suede and striped silks and decorated with more Peckham Pony Club appliqu?.
