Elegant menswear for Fall-Winter 2015/2016 by Cesare Attolini
In the 1930s, Naples was one of the most elegant cities in Italy. There and then, Vincenzo Attolini used to repeat to his admirers that a good tailor is none other than a craftsman who creates imperfect clothes for imperfect bodies. In 1930, he designed, cut and sewed a jacket with a line that had never been seen before and with unusual finishing details, making the jacket as soft and lightweight as a shirt. It was a revolution. It was the invention of Neapolitan style and that garment that the whole world today simply refers to unknowingly as 'The Jacket'.
Cesare Attolini is the most talented of Vincenzo's six children and the one who, from an early age, worked alongside him at the tailor's shop, learning the skilled techniques of cutting fabrics and the secrets of shaping and constructing that jacket. His sons, Massimiliano and Giuseppe, representing the third generation of the family, continued the family business.
And today, 130 tailors - each dedicated to performing a single step - use only scissors, thimbles, needles and thread to produce 50 entirely handmade jackets and suits per day, made of finest Scottish, English, Irish and Italian yarns, from the highest quality wools to the purest cashmeres. It takes 25 to 30 hours to make a suit and each of them has a little handcrafted details fine-tuned over the decades by Vincenzo Attolini.
