Gallery FASHION & SHOES is bringing the industry back together in person
“There is a real need for face-to-face contact! A lot of events and meetings have been forced into the digital realm over the past few months, but industry surveys, exhibitors and buyer feedback are clearly showing that direct personal interaction not only remains important, but is also preferred: having the chance to touch and feel products and engage in real-life conversations in person are crucial – especially in our industry!”
Ulrike Kähler, Project Director and Managing Director of Igedo Company
After months of social distancing, Düsseldorf, Germany’s hotspot for international fashion and shoes orders, is inviting visitors to the first industry get-together of the season since the lockdown. From 28 August 2020, Igedo Company and Supreme will be forming a ‘fashion bridge’ and bringing the industry back together in person – with, of course, the official approvals from the authorities and all the necessary preventative measures.
With FASHION, SHOES and the SHOWROOM CONCEPT, Gallery is one of the first tradeshow events to be going ahead. For Ulrike Kähler, it’s clear:
“The ball needs to start rolling again. It’s important for everyone that things start moving forward and that we establish a sense of normality in the current situation. That is vital for both exhibitors and buyers. New, fresh inspiration is more important than ever right now. And we are providing it with a well-balanced mix of shoes, fashion and accessories.”
Highest quality standards - also in the current circumstances
Even for this special edition, Igedo Company is once again offering an excellent portfolio of exhibitors as well as first-rate programme of side events. And for the first time, the DMI Fashion Days are also taking place simultaneously at the Areal Böhler. Visitors can look forward to plenty of information, inspiration and real-life interaction, not only there, but also at TW Order-Info and the many other interesting items on the agenda – and of course also in the halls with the carefully curated brands. Providing a tradeshow experience that is as carefree and relaxed as possible is the main priority here. The well-planned hygiene concept in cooperation with the Areal Böhler and the responsible authorities will guarantee the highest standards.
Pointing the way to the future
From 2021, Igedo Company’s next step will be to offer SHOES and FASHION on all four regular dates at the Areal Böhler in Düsseldorf. At each of the Gallery formats, the ratio of shoes, fashion and accessories will depend on the content focus of the relevant order date and its timing.
Due to the obligatory online registration as part of the health and safety measures and to avoid crowds congregating in queues, visitors to this Gallery format will enter and exit the event directly at the halls themselves. This will be supported by a highly functional guest management system. There will be no central entrance this time.
All events from the programme will take place in the ‘Altes Kesselhaus’:
- Over two afternoons, DMI FASHION DAY LIVE by the German Fashion Institute will ask the question “What’s next?”.
- TW Order-Info will be revealing the trends for spring/summer 2021.
- The HDS/L and BDSE press conference is providing information on the current situation of the manufacturing and retail sectors.
- Fashion Trend Pool will offer a valuable source of inspiration with their forecast for autumn/winter 2021/22 and Season’s Best for summer 2021.
- And WMS is presenting the results of the current report on German children’s feet and explaining the fits of children’s shoes.
In the ‘Alte Schmiedehallen’ visitors will find shoes from the CONTEMPORARY and URBAN segments, as well as accessories. With a mix of 32 shoe and fashion brands curated by Modeagentur Klauser, the ‘Halle am Wasserturm’ will be connected to the ‘Kaltstahlhalle’, which has been extended by 1,500 m². PREMIUM shoes will be on show there, as well as fashion from the AVANTGARDE and DESIGN segments, along with exhibitors from the SHOWROOM CONCEPT.

Trends for spring/summer 2021
10:00 am, ‘Altes Kesselhaus’
Nothing is how it was. This ordering season is full of uncertainties. How many carry-overs can a product assortment take? How much new merchandise is required? And most importantly, what kind of goods are needed? What are the current highlights? Minimalism or joyful innovation? And what kind of inspiration is encouraging consumers to make purchases right now? The answers to these questions will be discussed by Gudrun Allstädt and Simone Reiner, both fashion editors for TextilWirtschaft magazine.
Speakers: Gudrun Allstädt/Simone Reiner, Textilwirtschaft magazine

DMI FASHION DAY LIVE
WHAT’S NEXT?
from 1:30 pm – 5:00 pm, ‘Altes Kesselhaus’ (Sunday & Monday)
An analysis of the ZEITGEIST development, the latest COLOURS and MATERIALS, and the KEY DIRECTIONS and PRODUCTS for WOMEN’S and MENSWEAR including ACCESSORIES.
Speakers and topics of the talks:
1. In his ZEITGEIST analysis, Carl Tillessen will be exploring how our image of women has changed. “Fifty years ago, feminists were fighting prudishness by going nude. These days, women are fighting sexism by covering up. They have turned their backs on all those unrepentantly sexist brands, and a lot of the big ‘sex sells’ success stories have come to an abrupt end in recent years – American Apparel, Victoria’s Secret, Guess?, Abercrombie & Fitch, to name just a few… sexiness has become a sensitive issue, but it’s not impossible.”
2. The current palette of COLOURS finds itself between elementary forces and digital diversity. “In the colour harmonies for the autumn/winter 21/22 season, we are predicting very different ends of the spectrum. With the colour themes we are spanning the gamut from a deep sense of calm to eye-catching fashion statements. It’s about finding a balance between the current changes and longevity and between newness and continuity,” explains Niels Holger Wien.
3. “Of course some consumer decisions will become more sensible, more functional and more sustainable – and that’s a good thing!” An overview of the latest MATERIALS – fabrics, yarns and knitwear – in women’s and menswear will be provided by Winfried Rollmann. “Despite all of this, we are finding ourselves yearning for clarity and contours, which give perfect fabrics hold and stability. After this period of enforced restraint, partying and self-expression will start to play more of a role again. So it makes sense that we are welcoming a dash of glamour or seduction that is reawakening our playful approach to design freedom and reviving our spirits – re-joy!”
4. Karolina Landowski will be presenting the KEY DIRECTIONS & PRODUCTS including ACCESSORIES in womenswear. “In A/W 2021/22, WOMENSWEAR is oscillating between opposites: calmness and excess. A quest for meaning and hedonism. Uncompromising reduction and a rediscovered joy for embellishment. Escapism into nature, back to our carefree days of childhood, is comforting and inspiring at the same time.”
5. “We have experienced the world with different eyes over the past few months. Most of us have exercised restraint and made a lot of sacrifices. Clothing has taken on a new significance. It is too soon to say which direction the economy and society will take post-pandemic.” Thomas Hill will be presenting the KEY DIRECTIONS & PRODUCTS including ACCESSORIES in menswear. “Reduced-size collections with higher quality standards, pieces that are easier to combine, an increasing number of sustainable products and structures will be the future parameters when it comes to creating collections. Showing a clear edge will be the recipe for success.”
