The Milan Debut of the Vitale Barberis Canonico Supersonic Man
The Vitale Barberis Canonico wool mill, one of the oldest in the world with more than 350 years’ history and with the thirteenth generation of the same family at the helm, presents the new Spring/Summer 2019 collection at the Milano Unica XXVI edition. For this collection, the designers were inspired by the colours, the surroundings, and the graphics of NOMADISM: from the desert Tuaregs, to the Mongolian populations of the tundra, to the Maasai of the African uplands, a nomad by his very nature is constantly on the move. The animate and inanimate things all around him must be suited to his predisposition to travel. Most of all, his clothing.
CONTEMPORARY MAN, who wears Vitale Barberis Canonico fabrics, lives a life of greater movement, whether for pleasure or for business, so that he finds himself travelling more quickly and more often, and having to confront different environments and climates, also in terms of what he wears. And it is exactly with this “supersonic” man in mind that the wool mill Vitale Barberis Canonico has created the new line of fabrics for travel clothing, SUPERSONIC, for the gentleman who wants an impeccable appearance in any corner of the world. Resilient wools without equal in terms of crease-resistance, highly-twisted yarns for more breathability and resilience, natural-stretch performance giving natural elasticity and comfort … and where it is possible to increase the performance by means of a water-repellent treatment to confront any weather, while remaining elegant for the upcoming meeting. The SUPERSONIC line includes 4 different interpretations of the same fabric.
The Vitale Barberis Canonico Spring/Summer 2019 collection consists of more than 3,000 variations developed in the constant lines: Classic, Vintage, and Earth, Wind & Fire. In anticipation of the tendency towards the role of being “the designer behind the designer”, the wool mill proposes button arrangements, graphics, irregular yarns, three-dimensionality in the composition, in the weave and in the yarn, fabrics which play with light and colour for the man of the future who is always elegant, but still wants to be abreast of the times.
Only those companies with a long tradition of working with noble fibres such as mohair are able to enhance it even further. Under this premise, a suit in the Classic line in wool, mohair and silk is making its debut, a fabric presenting a “frost” effect as a result of the yarns used in its creation. (240 g — 80% wool, 15%mohair, 5% silk)
In the Vintage line, the Tropical tweed in wool and silk is presented, a fabric in a summer version perfect for both suits and jackets, developed in multiple designs from checks of various dimensions to micro-effects. The light, natural colours are enriched by multi-colour micro-tweed effects obtained as a result of the yarn in wool and silk which characterises its aspect. As a result, it has a fresh hand. (270 g — 52% wool, 48% silk)
In the Earth, Wind and Fire line, the article Capetown is a 3-layer fabric realised by laminating a tulle in polyester and elastane to one of our already existing fabrics already with polyethurane. This fabric is ideal for unlined dustcoats and raincoats in a more sporty style, in that it gives protection from the wind while offering good breathability. (350 g — 74% wool, 14% polyamide, 11% polyurethane, 1% elastane) The stand will be divided into two main areas. The lounge will pick up on the nomad theme using images related to the landscapes nomad populations move in. A central exhibition area will be dedicated entirely to the SUPERSONIC line where there will be representations of the contemporary man against the video background of cities in movement, from New York traffic to the frenetic lifestyle of Tokyo and Shanghai. And the history of the Concorde.
